Finding Your Growing Zone

Before you fall in love with a plant, it helps to know one thing: will it survive winter where you live? That's exactly what your growing zone tells you.

In short

🗺️ Your zone is based on how cold your winters get

🔢 Zones go from 1 (coldest) to 13 (warmest)

🌿 Every plant we sell lists the zones where it's hardy

✅ If your zone falls in that range, the plant should survive your winters

What is a growing zone?

Growing zones, also called USDA Plant Hardiness Zones, divide the country into areas based on the average coldest winter temperature. Each zone is 10°F apart, and each is split into "a" (slightly colder) and "b" (slightly warmer) halves.

The lower the number, the colder the winters. Zone 4 sees deep, bitter cold, while Zone 9 rarely freezes at all.

How to find your zone

The quickest way: use our zone finder. Click the Growzone button at the bottom of any page, enter your zip code, and your zone will be saved as you shop.

You can also look it up on the official USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map.

How to use your zone when shopping

Every product page lists a hardiness zone range, like Zones 4–8. If your zone is anywhere in that range, the plant should come back year after year in your garden.

Example: if you live in Zone 6, a plant rated for Zones 4–8 is a great fit. A plant rated for Zones 7–10 may not survive your winters.
