About This Plant
Soft blue-green foliage forms graceful clumps that brighten shaded gardens with cool color and fine texture. Native to eastern woodlands, it thrives in moist to average soils and adapts well to dry shade once established, making it an excellent choice beneath trees, along woodland paths, and in naturalized landscapes. Deer resistant and low maintenance, it brings lasting beauty with a relaxed, natural feel.
Planting & Care
How to Plant
Choose a spot with 6+ hours of direct sun. Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot and plant at the same depth it was growing, gently loosening the roots. Water deeply after planting and add 2–3 in of mulch, keeping it off the stems. Hardy in USDA zones 5-9.
Watering & Feeding
Water deeply 1–2 times a week for the first season, about 1 in per week. Keep soil evenly moist, especially during heat and dry spells. Rarely needs fertilizer; a layer of compost in spring is plenty.
Pruning & Seasonal Care
Evergreen: don't cut back hard. Comb out or trim tattered leaves in spring. Mulch in late fall to protect roots through the first winter.
