About This Plant
Brighten the landscape in every season with Arctic Fire® Yellow Red Twig Dogwood, a compact deciduous shrub prized for its vibrant golden-yellow stems and dependable year-round interest. Its colorful branches become especially striking once the leaves fall, bringing warmth and structure to the winter garden.
In spring, fresh green foliage emerges alongside clusters of small white flowers. Summer brings a lush, leafy display with white berries that add interest and provide food for birds. In fall, the foliage develops warm red and purple tones before dropping to reveal the shrub's colorful stems. Winter is when its golden-yellow branches truly shine, creating a beautiful contrast against snow and evergreens.
Its compact habit makes it a versatile choice for foundation plantings, mixed borders, rain gardens, mass plantings, and winter-interest gardens.
Planting & Care
How to Plant
Choose a spot with 6+ hours of direct sun. Dig a hole 2–3 times as wide as the pot but no deeper, with the top of the root ball slightly above ground level. Loosen circling roots and backfill with the native soil. Water deeply after planting and add 2–3 in of mulch, keeping it off the stems. Hardy in USDA zones 3-8.
Watering & Feeding
Water deeply 1–2 times a week for the first season, about 1 in per week. Keep soil evenly moist, especially during heat and dry spells. Feed once in early spring with a slow-release shrub fertilizer.
Pruning & Seasonal Care
Blooms in spring: prune right after flowering so you keep next year's buds. Remove dead or damaged branches any time. Mulch in late fall to protect roots through the first winter.
